Only One Episode To Go Until The Yellowstone Finale

There are only two episodes remaining of Taylor Sheridan’s hit television show, Yellowstone. With tensions escalating on the ranch and limited time left to conclude the 5-season series, here’s what we know and what fans are speculating about the final outcomes.

Starting with a quick wrap-up of Season 5, Episode 12: “Counting Coup.

To begin, what does “Counting Coup” mean?

In the finale of episode 12, Kayce Dutton, played by Luke Grimes, demonstrated his badass side. Although he has a military background, he rarely discusses his past in detail. In last week’s episode, fans witnessed his capabilities firsthand.

He utilized his training to find and confront the man who was hired to kill his father. Instead of seeking revenge, Kayce threatened the man to ensure his family’s safety.

Before leaving the tense situation, he struck the man on the side of the head and told him that he now carried a piece of his soul. He “counted coup,” but what does that mean?

According to the Encyclopedia of the Great Plains website, ‘counting coup’ is:

Killing was part of war, but showing courage in the process was more important for individual status. This was best accomplished by risking one’s life in charging the enemy on foot or horseback to get close enough to touch or strike him with the hand, a weapon, or a “coupstick.”

Essentially, it was a way of humiliating your enemy without having to kill them, making sure they knew they were defeated but sparing their lives.

What about the ranch hands in episode 12?

The ranch hands were a massive part of the previous episode, with a tragic and preventable death occurring. Colby died by saving a young ranch hand from a dangerous horse.

The characters took this unexpected death hard, especially Rip, who blamed himself for the death as he could have killed the horse earlier.

The men’s mourning revealed a rarely seen soft side of Beth Dutton.

What Do We Know About Season 5, Episode 13: “Give The World Away?”

The teaser for episode 13 opens with a fight between Beth and Rip over the future of the ranch. Rip says, “How am I supposed to run a ranch if you sell everything we own?”

Beth responds by saying, “There is no solution. We’re just buying time.”

This makes sense, as the most prominent fan theory suggests that the ranch will be given to the Indian reservation. This theory originates from a conversation in the prequel series, 1883. The Dutton family received a prophecy from an Indian chief stating that in seven generations, they would lose the land to the Indigenous people.

That could be a possibility, especially since the episode’s title is “Give The World Away.” Only time will tell.

Other than the argument with Beth and Rip, there is also a threatening phone call between Jaime and Beth. This posed the question, will the feud finally come to an end in the next episode?

Jaime bites back during their phone call by saying, “You destroy me. You destroy yourself.”
