Carly Pearce Pranks Rascal Flatts By Sending Michael Ray On Stage In Her Place

Rascal Flatts may have plenty of dates left on their Back to Us Tour, but for one of their openers, her last show with them was on Friday night (August 18). Carly Pearce has quickly established herself as a force to be reckoned with in country music, thanks in large part to her chart-topping hit “Every Little Thing.”

The song’s success led to Pearce landing a nomination for New Female Vocalist of the Year at the 2018 ACM Awards and two nominations at the 2018 CMT Music Awards. She won the award for Breakthrough Video of the Year at the latter ceremony, and give an emotional speech in response.

Pearce’s year has been full of other milestone moments so far, including her 50th performance at the Grand Ole Opry. On top of all of that, in July she revealed that she is currently dating fellow country singer Michael Ray.

Now that their relationship is public, Pearce and Ray aren’t shy about showing their love for each other on social media. Pearce recently shared an especially sweet post about her man, describing how Ray surprised her before her last show with Rascal Flatts.

“Sitting in a nail salon and in walks my favorite human in the world who says ‘I couldn’t miss your last @rascalflatts show,’” Pearce wrote along with a photo of her hugging Ray outside of a tour bus.

After she got over the initial surprise of seeing Ray, Pearce thought of a prank she could play on Rascal Flatts. It’s pretty common for tour openers to prank the headliners when they wrap up tour, and Pearce couldn’t miss out on the tradition.

Often, the opener will dress in a goofy costume of some sort and walk out on stage to a bunch of laughs. But instead of doing that, Pearce got the brilliant idea to send Ray out in her place!

At a moment in the show when Pearce usually walks out to sing with Rascal Flatts, she remained in the wings and sang into a microphone while Ray strutted out on stage pretending to be her. Needless to say, the Rascal Flatts fellas were quite surprised, because that was something they never expected to happen.
