going to the fishing hole

Kristen Peterson from Jacksonville, Georgia caught one of the biggest bass fish most anglers would be drooling at the mouth to catch, a 16 pound bass.

She’s a proud mother of seven kids and on the weekends she likes to get a break from her motherly duties by going to the fishing hole. On this particular morning, Kristen was out on a private pond in Telfair County just getting her day started with her husband, Douglas.

“I was fussing at Douglas because he was hogging the bank, so I turned around and threw out into open water,” Kristen said.

Using a junebug-colored plastic worm and an 8 pound test line, on her third cast into the open water she felt a tug on her pole. She began to reel it in feeling the weight of the fish but then all of a sudden it felt like she lost it, so she sat there for a minute.

To her surprise, the fish surfaced to the top of the water and her husband yelled, “That’s a 15 pound bass!”

Kristen screamed, “Don’t let it get away! If you do, I’m going to push you in!”

She reeled it in and they were in shock at how big it was. They hooked it to a set of spring scales they had in the boat and the needle pulled down to the 16 pound mark. She went on to say, “I knew I didn’t have anything close to the (world) record, so I released it. I didn’t want to kill it. I also released a 14-pounder three weeks ago.”

That’s not the first time she said she caught it and believes she’ll catch it again one day. It was also very nice of her to release it back into the water. Congratulations Kristen!
