Tim McGraw Has Suffered Through Multiple Health Issues Over The Last Few Years
Country star Tim McGraw has gone through several major surgeries in a very short timeframe, and he admits that the experience nearly made him consider quitting performing altogether.
During his tour stop in Highland, California, on Saturday, October 25, McGraw paused his show to speak to the audience about his recovery.
“I’ve had four back surgeries and double knee replacements, just in the last couple of years,” McGraw told the crowd according to a video from Fox News.
“Things were getting really bad,” he added.
The surgeries forced McGraw to put his career on hold for a considerable amount of time.
He stayed off stage for nearly a year after the double knee surgery, and an earlier back surgery also led him to step away from a Netflix series he was set to star in and executive produce.
Understandably, McGraw revealed that he was “getting really depressed” over the struggles he was facing. So much so, he debated walking away from his country music career.
McGraw Says That His Wife, Faith Hill, Has Also Undergone Several Surgeries
Obviously, McGraw ended up pushing through and decided that it wasn’t time to retire. In fact, he’s back stronger than ever.
He’s touring again and recently announced a new set of shows for December. He’ll be filling in for Dolly Parton’s postpones Las Vegas residency at the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
McGraw also shared that he wasn’t the only one in his household recovering from major surgeries. His wife, Faith Hill, has also gone through several of her own in recent years.
Hill usually keeps her personal life private, but McGraw explained that he was opening up about their experiences because both of their surgeons were in the audience that night, and he wanted to thank them for the incredible work they had done.
“The doctor who did my double knee replacement is here tonight,” McGraw said, asking him to stand for a round of applause. “Dr. Chen, where you at? There he is!”
“My wife has been going through quite a bit of surgeries. She’s had five neck surgeries, and she’s had a couple of hand surgeries. Her hand surgeon, Dr. Rose, is here tonight,” he continued, asking for another applause.
But McGraw wasn’t sharing all of this just because their doctors were there. He went on to explain that after going through everything, he poured all of his emotions and pain into music.
“This spring, before I had my final back surgery, things were getting really bad, so I was seriously contemplating and figuring out how to walk away,” he admitted.
“I didn’t want to, but I didn’t think it was going to get better. But it’s gotten better. So, during that process, I had this idea for this song that sort of dealt with facing age and facing all that stuff that comes along with it.”
The song McGraw performed for the crowd was “King Rodeo.”
The track originally marked his comeback when he first sang it at the inaugural Music City Rodeo back in May. He later released the song in August along with its official music video.
