President Trump Honors Veterans At Arlington National Cemetery
On Tuesday (November 11), President Donald Trump commemorated Veterans Day with a wreath-laying ceremony at Arlington National Cemetery.
The President was accompanied by Vice President JD Vance and Secretary of Veterans Affairs Doug Collins as he placed a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier in solemn tribute to the men and women who have given their lives in service to the United States.
Following the ceremony, Vice President Vance, a former United States Marine himself, introduced Trump in the Memorial Amphitheater. The President then delivered remarks honoring America’s veterans, expressing the nation’s enduring gratitude for their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty.
“Today, to every veteran — we love our veterans — we say the words too often left unsaid: Thank you for your service. Thank you,” Trump said. “Thank you for carrying America’s fate on your strong, very broad, proud shoulders.”
During his address, President Trump also acknowledged several members of his Cabinet in attendance, including Secretaries Pete Hegseth, Lori Chavez-DeRemer, Doug Burgum, Chris Wright, Linda McMahon, and Attorney General Pam Bondi.
“Our heroes have lived through unthinkable nightmares so we could live the American dream — and the American dream is coming back again, stronger than ever before, and you’ll see that as the next few years evolve,” Trump said.
Trump Announces Veterans Day As “Victory Day”
In his remarks, President Trump announced that Veterans Day will henceforth also be recognized as “Victory Day for World War I,” citing the United States’ decisive role in securing Germany’s surrender on November 11, 1918.
“Today is not only Veterans Day, but it’s my proclamation that we are now going to be saying and calling [it] Victory Day for World War I,” Trump said in the speech.
The President had previously suggested a similar idea in a May post on Truth Social, in which he designated May 8 as Victory Day for World War II. However, the official written proclamation for Veterans Day, released on Monday, did not include the new designation, suggesting the administration may still be reviewing the proposal.
“From now on, we’re going to say Victory Day for World War I and World War II. And we could do for plenty of other wars, but we’ll start with those two. Maybe someday somebody else will add a couple of more, because we won a lot of good ones,” Trump said.
Trump made the announcement after laying a wreath at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. The visit was the President’s only scheduled event for Veterans Day.
