Trump Posts Unhinged And Callous Remarks About Rob Reiner’s Passing
on Dec 15, 2025

The President Attributed “Trump Derangement Syndrome” As The Cause Of Reiner’s Death
In the evening of Sunday, December 14, reports came through of two deceased individuals being found in the Brentwood, California, home of Hollywood director and actor Rob Reiner.
Hours later, it was confirmed that the bodies that had been found were that of Reiner, 78, and his wife, Michele, 68.
Just after midnight on December 15, Los Angeles Police revealed it had arrested Reiner’s son, Nick Reiner, and was holding him on a $4 million bond.
The tragic killing of Reiner and his wife has sent shockwaves throughout the film industry.
Even President Donald Trump has responded to the news of his passing, but in a manner decidedly lacking tact.
See Trump’s comments below…
Reiner Was A Vocal Opponent Of The Trump Administration
Prior to directing films like When Harry Met Sally (1989) and Misery (1990), Reiner made a name for himself as an actor on the controversial television sitcom All In The Family (1971-1979). There, he memorably played Mike “Meathead” Stivic, a left-leaning character who vocally opposed the Republican administration of President Richard Nixon.
This character would go on to follow Reiner throughout his life, as Reiner, in his own life, was a prominent Democrat who often expressed his views on political matters.
Of course, this meant that Reiner was also a critic of the Trump administration.
In a 2017 interview with Variety, Reiner detailed some of his political activism, noting his past as an opponent of the Iraq War.
He also called out Trump, accusing him during his first term as president of suppressing journalists from “holding the administration accountable.”
Later, in that same interview, he said Trump was “the single most unqualified human being to ever assume the presidency of the United States.”

Trump Reacts To Reiner’s Death
With Reiner’s views on Trump in mind, Trump took to Truth Social, as he often does, and shared a statement on the death of Reiner.
Posted in the morning of December 15, Trump’s post begins fairly civil before quickly shifting toward a more callous take on Reiner’s death.
“A very sad thing happened last night in Hollywood,” starts Trump. “Rob Reiner, a tortured and struggling, but once very talented movie director and comedy star, has passed away, together with his wife, Michele…”
From there, the tone of the post shifts, as Trump then writes that Reiner’s death occurred “due to the anger he caused others through his massive, unyielding, and incurable affliction with a mind crippling disease known as TRUMP DERANGEMENT SYNDROME, sometimes referred to as TDS.”
Trump then went on to write:
“He was known to have driven people CRAZY by his raging obsession of President Donald J. Trump, with his obvious paranoia reaching new heights as the Trump Administration surpassed all goals and expectations of greatness, and with the Golden Age of America upon us, perhaps like never before.”
Concluding his post, Trump wrote, “May Rob and Michele rest in peace!”

While Trump’s remarks bear his now-standard sense of “humor,” his post comes months after a national discussion has been occurring on political violence in response to people using their First Amendment right to freedom of speech.
The assassination in September of the influential conservative Charlie Kirk, who founded Turning Point USA, led to this discussion taking on new life.
