Canada And The United States Hockey Teams Are Set To Compete Against Each Other Once Again

On Saturday, February 15th, the United States and Canada faced off on the ice. The two hockey teams were competing in the 4 Nations hockey tournament.

Finland and Sweden were the other two nations included in the tournament this year.

Saturday’s game between the U.S. and Canada made history by featuring the fastest fight to break out on the ice.

The match began with three consecutive fights, as U.S. players Matthew and Brady Tkachuk and their teammate J.T. Miller dropped their gloves within the first nine seconds of the game.

Why Did The American Players Want To Fight?

Before the game began, Canadian fans booed the “Star-Spangled Banner,” prompting the hockey players to defend their national anthem.

The U.S. team won the game 3-1, securing their spot in the championship match. After losing to the U.S. team, Canada went on to beat Finland, earning them the second spot in the finals. This means there will be a rematch between the U.S. and Canada tonight (February 20).

Donald Trump Shares Strong Message For U.S. Hockey Team

This rivalry exists on the ice and on a global stage, as relations between the United States and Canada are currently heightened.

Donald Trump has threatened to implement tariffs on the northern country. Although the tariffs have not been enacted, they have increased tensions between the two nations.

The main reason for the tension is that Donald Trump has been claiming he would like to make Canada the 51st state. Obviously, this would not be well-received by the nation of Canada.

He shared this desire in a post on Truth Social.

He said,

“I’ll be calling our GREAT American Hockey Team this morning to spur them on towards victory tonight against Canada, which with FAR LOWER TAXES AND MUCH STRONGER SECURITY, will someday, maybe soon, become our cherished, and very important, Fifty First State. I will be speaking before the Governors tonight in D.C., and will sadly, therefore, be unable to attend. But we will all be watching, and if Governor Trudeau would like to join us, he would be most welcome. Good luck to everybody, and have a GREAT game tonight. So exciting! PRESIDENT DONALD J. TRUMP”

Given the tumultuous relationship between the countries, tonight’s hockey game is bound to be intense.
