Freedom 250 To Celebrate The Nation’s 250th Birthday
Freedom 250 is a non-partisan initiative celebrating the 250th anniversary of American independence on July 4, 2026. The movement connects federal, state, and local efforts to foster a “Golden Age of Opportunity.”
Freedom 250 will work alongside the White House Task Force 250 to coordinate a nationwide year of festivities which began on Memorial Day 2025. The initiative aims to honor U.S. history, innovation, and the enduring ideals of freedom, according to its website.
President Trump’s Signature To Be On U.S. Currency
As part of the 250th celebration, the U.S. Department of the Treasury announced that U.S. dollar bills will carry the signature of Donald Trump, a move that would be unprecedented for a sitting president.
Under the proposal, Trump’s signature would appear on all U.S. paper currency, replacing that of the U.S. Treasurer for the first time in more than 165 years. U.S. banknotes have traditionally included the signatures of the Treasury Secretary and the Treasurer.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the decision is intended to recognize what he described as the Trump administration’s “historic achievements” while commemorating the 250th anniversary of the Declaration of Independence.
“Under President Trump’s leadership, we are on a path toward unprecedented economic growth, lasting dollar dominance and fiscal strength and stability,” Bessent said in a statement.
According to Reuters, the first $100 bills featuring the signatures of Trump and Bessent are set to be printed in June, with other denominations expected to be introduced in the following months.
“There is no more powerful way to recognize the historic achievements of our great country and President Donald J. Trump than U.S. dollar bills bearing his name, and it is only appropriate that this historic currency be issued at the Semiquincentennial,” Bessent continued.

U.S. Mint To Produce Gold Coin Featuring Trump
The move comes after last week, the U.S. Mint was authorized to produce a 24-karat commemorative gold coin featuring Trump. It is expected to feature an eagle on one side and a portrait of the president on the other, according to NPR.
Commemorative coins are generally intended for collectors and are governed by different rules than regular circulation currency. This allows for depictions of living people, something typically avoided on standard U.S. money.
“As we approach our 250th birthday, we are thrilled to prepare coins that represent the enduring spirit of our country and democracy, and there is no profile more emblematic for the front of such coins than that of our serving President, Donald J. Trump,” U.S. Treasurer Brandon Beach said in a statement.
