Untitled Entertainment is creating a scripted drama based on the life of “Fancy Like” singer, Walker Hayes.

Hayes recently rose to fame after 20 years of hustling in Nashville with very little to show for his work. The singer went viral after posting a TikTok dance with his daughter to his song “Fancy Like.” Since then, the 43-year-old has made even more of a name for himself in the country music world and on social media.

Walker Hayes’ rough road to fame

The musician was a full-blown alcoholic after spending countless years in Nashville without making much progress. Hayes was dropped from his music label, and had their family van repossessed after a series of unfortunate events. He was an atheist, struggling to make ends meet for his family of eight, and felt like he had no hope until a man named Craig came into the picture.

Craig’s wife, Laura, invited Walker’s family to church. Laney, Walker’s wife, was adamant that they go even though that was the last place her husband wanted to be. Hayes begrudgingly attended the church service, but later admits he was drunk. That same church service was when he met Craig, a friend who would later change his life. Craig showed up to a baseball game where the Hayes family was and gifted them a minivan, according to the song Walker wrote for Craig.

“I have nothing going on musically. I’m an alcoholic. I’m great at pushing people away,” Hayes shared in an interview. “And then so here comes this guy named Craig, who was drawn nearer to me, and it was quite confusing. You know, there were a lot of times when I was like, ‘What’s this dude’s deal? Like, why does he love us so much? Like, why does he keep feeding us food? Why is he giving me a minivan? Why is he encouraging me? Why isn’t he like everybody else?’”

The families eventually became best friends

God used Craig in Walker’s life and they have since written a book together called “Glad You’re Here,” which shares their story of God’s goodness and grace.

“In the long run, I honestly found out he’s just as broken as me, but he just knows Jesus. He needs Jesus. Every morning he wakes up, he needs Jesus, and Jesus is a light through him. And then, it was an awareness. I began to look in the mirror and just look at simple things.”

Walker was two years sober when his family suffered the loss of their newborn daughter, Oakleigh, due to a uterine rupture that almost took his wife’s life as well. He gives all the credit to God for not relapsing during that time in his life.

Walker Hayes is now eight years sober and gets to share his powerful story with the world through a scripted drama that will follow an aspiring musician inspired by Walker Hayes.

“We couldn’t be more excited to be working with a talent of such magnitude in Walker Hayes,” shared Laura Notarianni and Michael Rosenberg of Untitled Entertainment. “His powerful story is one that is inspirational, heartfelt and harrowing, showcasing the tenacity of the human spirit. An uplifting series like this is just what audiences need right now.” They continued, “Walker and Justin are the ideal creative pairing to dig into the truth of what it’s like to get knocked down and get back up time and time again. To persevere, fight for their families and make their creative dreams come true.”

“My wife Laney and I have had such a wild life and love story,” added Hayes. “We reflect all the time together, wondering how in the world we got here. The amount of brokenness versus beautiful lends itself to endless amounts of stories to explore. I can’t think of an emotion we haven’t felt together. We never could have imagined a company like Untitled would want to create a scripted drama about our life. Their willingness to welcome and include us in the process has been beyond encouraging. We are excited and grateful for this creative opportunity to share us with the world!”

Walker and his family have such a powerful story. Stay tuned to watch it come to life in this new TV series!
