Remembering Legendary Actor Val Kilmer

On Tuesday, April 1, it was announced that actor Val Kilmer had passed away at the age of 65. His daughter, Mercedes Kilmer, confirmed that he died from pneumonia.

Kilmer has faced serious health challenges in the past. In 2015, he revealed that he was diagnosed with throat cancer. He underwent chemotherapy and two tracheotomies, which caused significant damage to his vocal cords.

Kilmer was a beloved movie star known for many unforgettable roles throughout his long career.

His breakout role came in 1986 when he portrayed Tom “Iceman” Kazansky in Top Gun. He later reprised this role in Top Gun: Maverick in 2022, which was his final appearance in a film.

Kilmer went on to be a part of many movies that are now considered cult classics, including his role in the 1993 film Tombstone, where he starred alongside Kurt Russell, Sam Elliott, and Bill Paxton.

Val Kilmer’s Iconic Role As Doc Holliday In ‘Tombstone’

Tombstone is a Western that tells the story of the famous gunfight at the O.K. Corral in Tombstone, Arizona.

It follows lawmen Wyatt Earp, William Brocius, Johnny Ringo, and Doc Holliday, who work together to try and stop the Clanton gang from causing chaos.

Kilmer plays Doc Holliday, a gambler and gunslinger who shares a close friendship with Wyatt Earp (Kurt Russell). Holliday is clever and tough but also sick with tuberculosis.

Kilmer’s performance as Doc is one of his most praised, with many people amazed at how he could deliver such sharp and quick-witted lines (which are still famously quoted today) while also making his character come off as vulnerable.
