The country music world lost a legend on Tuesday (August 8). Glen Campbell passed away at 81 years old after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease.

A statement on his website read, “It is with the heaviest of hearts that we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father, grandfather, and legendary singer and guitarist, Glen Travis Campbell, at the age of 81, following his long and courageous battle with Alzheimer’s disease.

Glen revealed his Alzheimer’s diagnosis with the world in 2011 and later embarked on a “Goodbye Tour” with dates through later 2012. Although he had trouble remembering some of the lyrics as well as the order of his set list, he completed the entirety of the tour on November 30, 2012.

Glen brought cameras along for the tour and it became an award-winning documentary called Glen Campbell: I’ll Be Me, giving fans an inside look at his struggles with the disease. His youngest daughter, Ashley, who is also a talented musician, joined him on the road as a member of his band.

Following the news of her legendary father’s passing, Ashley took to Facebook to express her feelings.

“Heartbroken,” she wrote. “I owe him everything I am, and everything I ever will be. He will be remembered so well and with so much love.”

She accompanied it with a photo of her and her father holding hands.

We will keep Ashley and the rest of her family in our prayers during this devastating time. In lieu of flowers, the Campbell family has requested donations be made to the Glen Campbell Memorial Fund at BrightFocus Foundation through CareLiving.org.

Following the tour, she penned a heartbreaking song about her father called “Remembering”. Enjoy it below.
