“When I started this country thing, ya know, I didn’t care what people thought,” the country superstar said in an interview with CNN about his life and how he went from lead singer of Hootie & the Blowfish to a country solo artist.

“I’m Not Hootie”

Starting this pop/rock band in his college dorm at University of South Carolina, Darius Rucker explains that he doesn’t identify as “Hootie” – saying “I’m not Hootie – when I named the band I guess I didn’t think that people would think I was Hootie.”

While he doesn’t consider himself to be Hootie, there’s a part of his life as a rock star that can never go away. For the last decade, Rucker’s former band has been on hiatus while he pursued his solo country music career.

Hootie & the Blowfish have made various appearances here and there for annual charity concerts and even a one-off late-night gig, but they have been adamant about not working on new music or touring as a group.

Four Country Records Later

Charting three of four full country studio albums at the No. 1 spot on Billboard’s US Country chart in the time since he and Hootie went on hiatus seems to be the right amount of time for these folks and in a shocking announcement on Monday, December 3rd, 2018 – he revealed the news many fans had been waiting years to hear.

For the first time in a very, very long time – Hootie & the Blowfish are reuniting for not only a new record but a massive stadium tour featuring the Barenaked Ladies!

The revived Hootie tour will kick off on May 30th, 2019 and hit 44 cities across the nation including Los Angeles, New York, Virginia Beach, and will wrap up in their beloved college town, Columbia, South Carolina.

Nobody saw this groundbreaking “thank you” album and tour coming – but it definitely was something we’d all been hoping for!
