ORIGINAL STORY – Home Belonging To Parents Of NASCAR’s Denny Hamlin Deemed A “Complete Loss” After Fire
On Sunday evening (December 28), a fire broke out at a home belonging to the parents of NASCAR driver Denny Hamlin.
WCNC in North Carolina reports that the home, located in the state’s Gaston County, is owned by a company managed by Hamlin. Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department Chief David Toomey said the residence belonged to Hamlin’s parents.
Several Gaston County fire departments responded to the scene. It took firefighters close to two hours to extinguish the blaze due to a lack of water in the area.
Unfortunately, the Lucia-Riverbend Fire Department said the home has been deemed a “complete loss.” Firefighters managed to recover some collectibles and racing memorabilia from the house.
2 People Hospitalized Following The Fire
WCNC also reports that two people were “hurt” and hospitalized following the fire. One of the victims passed away after WCNC published its initial report.
Officials didn’t elaborate on the victims’ conditions beyond sharing that one suffered from smoke inhalation.
Hamlin’s father dealt with some health issues this year. Hamlin spoke about his dad’s health after scoring his 60th NASCAR Cup Series win a few months ago.
“Yeah, [he’s] just not doing well, not feeling well. He’s the one that got me into racing. Just took me to a racetrack when I was five. Then made all the sacrifices financially to keep me going. Sold everything they had. We almost lost our house a couple times. Just tried to keep it all going. So, I’m glad he was able to see 60.”
As of press time, Hamlin has not released a statement about the fire at his parents’ house.
Fire officials told WCNC they will continue investigating the fire on Monday (December 29). Watch a report about the situation below.
Our prayers go out to Hamlin’s parents, Hamlin himself, and the first responders working at the scene.
