Jillian Cardarelli Reveals Cancer Diagnosis At 33
Country singer Jillian Cardarelli revealed earlier this summer that she had been diagnosed with cancer.
The 33-year-old actress and country singer shared she was diagnosed with stage 2 invasive ductal carcinoma, a form of breast cancer. In an interview with PEOPLE, she opened up about how much her life has changed since receiving the news.
“I don’t even know what day it is anymore,” Cardarelli told the outlet. “I think it’s only been two or three weeks since the diagnosis.”
Cardarelli said the diagnosis came as a complete shock. For nearly a decade, she had gone in for routine checkups, and every visit had brought the same reassuring news: everything was clear.
“I’ve had areas in my breasts that have been diagnosed with dense fibrous tissue since I was 25 years old that I’ve been getting looked at by ultrasound a couple of times, but nothing was ever seen,” she said.
Cardarelli said that when she first got the news, she felt “fear and sadness.” She struggled to understand why something like this was happening to someone young, active, and otherwise healthy.
“I’m like, ‘Why did this happen?’ I do not fit the profile of somebody that should get cancer at 33 years old,” she said. “So yes, there’s a little bit of anger there. But I’m not angry at God. I’m leaning on Him more than ever.”
Cardarelli is a singer and songwriter who has been making a name for herself in Nashville and beyond. Most recently, the country star performend at CMA Fest in June.
Jillian Cardarelli Shares Update With Cancer Journey
Earlier this week, Cardarelli shared an update on where she’s at in her journey.
The country singer gave fans a glimpse into her new normal, sharing a “morning in the life” video that documented her daily routine.
“a dear friend recently told me: “being brave doesn’t mean you’re not scared…it means being scared to your core and still showing up anyway” here’s to showing up anyway 💪🏼,” Caradelli wrote in the caption.
She arrived at the facility in Boston, detailing how she first spends time at the radiation machine and then meets with her team. She revealed that Elvis is even played during her treatments, calling the music her “good luck charm.”
