One Louisiana Man Is Living Out His Wildest Dreams
A 66-year-old Louisiana man is proving that it is never too late in life to achieve your dreams!
Ever since he was a young boy and first laid eyes on the Louisiana State University (LSU) Tiger Marching Band, Kent Broussard of Baton Rouge, Louisiana imagined himself one day playing tuba alongside them.
Life took Kent in a different direction as he became an accountant, started a family, and assumed he had aged out of the opportunity to join the band he had always admired. The dream never left him, but for decades, it seemed just out of reach.
“No, I wasn’t going to do that,” Kent said of joining the marching band. “I wasn’t going to play for the LSU band when I was 50.”
Now, after a year of hard work and determination, that childhood dream is becoming a reality.

Kent went back to school, enrolling at LSU with one goal in mind; to earn a spot in the Tiger Marching Band. Though he had played the tuba as a child, decades had passed, and his training was long forgotten.
The retired accountant relearned the instrument and trained rigorously, preparing himself for the competitive audition process.

LSU Marching Band director, Simon Holoweiko, explained to CBS News he didn’t allow Kent just to join without hard work.
“No, there are no breaks when you come here,” Holoweiko said. “And we follow that process to get the best possible group we can.”
Kent is now the oldest person in the Lousiana State University band by 41 years, and played in his first game against the Louisiana Tech Bulldogs Saturday (September 6).
He was met with a roaring applause and a standing ovation from the stadium, inspiring a generation to never stop going after their dreams.
“The only thing you can do is fail. Your only failure is not trying,” Kent said of the experience.
