Tiger Woods Involved In Rollover Car Crash

UPDATE (3/31/2026):
Tiger Woods issued a statement on Tuesday evening to address Friday’s car crash and his subsequent arrest. In a post made to X, the World Golf Hall of Famer said that he was “going to step away for a period of time” to focus on his health and recovery.

“I know and understand the seriousness of the situation I find myself in today. I am stepping away for a period of time to seek treatment and focus on my health,” Tiger wrote. “This is necessary in order for me to prioritize my well-being and work toward lasting recovery.”

He added that he is “committed to taking the time needed to return to a healthier, stronger, and more focused place, both personally and professionally.”

ORIGINAL STORY:
Golf legend Tiger Woods was involved in a rollover crash on Friday (March 27) in Jupiter Island, Florida.

According to TMZ, the Martin County Sheriff’s Office has not released details on the cause of the crash or Woods’ condition. Authorities later reported in a press conference that Woods had been arrested for driving under the influence.

The crash happened shortly after 2 p.m. in the same town he resides. Woods was described as appearing “lethargic” at the time of the incident.

Details Surrounding The Crash Revealed

According to an arrest affidavit released Tuesday (March 31), Woods reportedly had bloodshot, glassy eyes with “extremely dilated pupils.”

Woods crossed double solid lines in his Land Rover and tried to pass another vehicle towing a trailer. During the maneuver, he hit the trailer, which caused his SUV to flip onto its side. Because the driver’s side was pinned against the ground, the other driver helped him exit through the passenger side, the affidavit said.

The professional golfer admitted he was looking at his cell phone and changing the radio station prior to the crash. He also told deputies that he had not consumed any alcohol, though he had taken “a few” prescribed medications earlier that day.

Court documents reveal Woods’ driver’s license has been suspended.

President Trump Responds To The Crash Involving His “Close Friend”

President Donald Trump responded to the incident shortly after the crash. Trump and Woods have maintained a close relationship for many years.

“I feel so badly. He’s got some difficulty. There was an accident and that’s all I know. Very close friend of mine. He’s an amazing person, amazing man. But some difficulty,” Trump told reporters when he landed in Miami to speak at an event.

Trump awarded Woods the Presidential Medal of Freedom in May of 2019. You can listen to his comments regarding the crash below.

In February 2021, the professional golfer was seriously injured in a single-car crash in Southern California, when his vehicle rolled multiple times and left him trapped inside.

Woods underwent emergency surgery to repair “open fractures” in his lower right leg, including the insertion of a rod in his tibia and screws and pins in his foot and ankle. He later had at least one additional surgery in April 2023 related to injuries sustained in that crash.
