Jennifer Nettles Sings Vince Gill’s “Go Rest High On That Mountain” In Stirring Tribute To Those Lost On 9/11

Country singer and actress Jennifer Nettles played a role in helping America remember the 2,997 lives lost on 9/11.
Nettles, who is a solo artist and member of Sugarland, has also performed on Broadway. So New York City is a place she holds especially close to her heart.
On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, Nettles performed at the 25th Anniversary Commemoration Ceremony in New York City.

Nettles delivered a stirring rendition of Vince Gill‘s “Go Rest High on That Mountain.” Gill originally started writing the somber song following Keith Whitley‘s death in 1989. He finished it after his own brother, Bob, died in 1993.
The song’s original recording famously featured Ricky Skaggs and Patty Loveless on backing vocals.
Jennifer Nettles had Emily Fink, Adam Rothenberg, and Naomi Serrano onstage to accompany her when she sang “Go Rest High” during the 9/11 ceremony. They offered up some breathtaking harmonies in coordination with Nettles’ emotional performance.

Jennifer Nettles Shares Moving Message On 25th Anniversary Of 9/11 Attacks
After the 9/11 memorial ceremony, Jennifer Nettles took to social media with a message for her followers. She started by sharing how honored she was to sing for the families of those we lost on September 11, 2001.
She continued to write:
“Those of us who were alive then all remember where we were when it happened.
It is always hard to sing within the presence of, and while holding, such emotion. So many sad hearts in front of you. Emotion ‘catches in your throat’ as they say. The voice is sacredly situated between the head and the heart.”

But, Nettles noted that no matter how hard it may be, she must continue to “sing through the sadness” to help those who are hurting on this heartbreaking anniversary.
She closed her message by thanking Fink, Rothenberg, and Serrano for performing with her at the ceremony. She also thanked Gill for giving her his “blessing” to sing “Go Rest High,” and for writing such a beautiful song to begin with. She fittingly referred to it as “an amazing modern hymn.”
