Darryl Worley Delivers Revised “Have You Forgotten?” Exactly 25 Years After 9/11

Darryl Worley is marking the 25th anniversary of the September 11 attacks with a newly recorded version of his powerful song, “Have You Forgotten?”
The September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks forever changed the United States, claiming the lives of 2,977 people and leaving an immeasurable impact on countless others. In the days and weeks that followed, music became an important way for Americans to process their grief, find comfort and come together during one of the nation’s darkest moments.
Among the songs that resonated most deeply in the aftermath was Darryl Worley’s “Have You Forgotten?”, which became closely associated with the country’s collective remembrance of the tragedy. It was released in March 2003 as the title track of his compilation album of the same name.
It became one of the most memorable songs of his career, spending seven weeks at number one on the US Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.
Darryl Worley Asks Again, “Have You Forgotten?”
To commemorate “one of the darkest days in America’s history,” Darryl Worley went back into the studio to record a new version of the poignant anthem.
On Friday, September 11th, 2026, he released the reimagined version of “Have You Forgotten?” Along with the announcement of the release, the musician wrote:
“‘Have You Forgotten?’ has become an authentic piece of American history that I believe will stand the test of time. In my opinion, it may be more relevant now than it ever has been.”
Worley explains that the song was never meant to be political, even though it was often interpreted that way. He added:
“The song is a tribute written to honor those who serve. We hoped it would call attention to the intense sacrifices made by the amazing men and women of the U.S. military and our dedicated first responders across this great nation.”
Now, two and a half decades later, he poses the question:
“When I look at our landscape today and all the things taking place in these great United States of America, I can’t help but wonder, have you forgotten?”
In the new version of the song, the lyric in the final phrase of the song has been changed from “Don’t you tell me not to worry ’bout bin Laden,” to “Now we don’t have to worry ’bout bin Laden,” acknowledging that al-Qaeda leader Osama bin Laden was killed in 2011.
