The 2022 Academy of Country Music Song of the Year award was handed out Monday night (March 7). The nominees included New Female Artist of the Year nominee Lainey Wilson’s hit “Things a Man Oughta Know,” “Knowing You” by Kenny Chesney, “7 Summers” from Morgan Wallen, the Jordan Davis & Luke Bryan collab “Buy Dirt,” and the viral dance hit “Fancy Like” by Walker Hayes.

The Song of the Year trophy winner was…..LAINIE WILSON!

This win marks the second ACM Award win for Lainey Wilson who also won the New Female Artist of the Year award.

Wilson burst onto the country music scene with her breakout hit “Things a Man Oughta Know” in 2020. The song gave the former Hannah Montana impersonator her first No. 1 on the Country Songs chart. With tour credits opening for artists such as Morgan Wallen and Jason Aldean, the future looks bright for Lainey Wilson!

During Wilson’s acceptance speech she was clearly shocked as she exclaimed “Holy moly!”

“Country music is my life. It’s been my life as long as I can remember. I’m from a town of 264 people in norther Louisiana where country music is life,” Wilson said before saying that “Things a Man Oughta Know” is a song about knowing how to treat people right. She added that the golden rule isn’t just something “a man oughta know” but something everyone should know.

Congratulations to Lainie Wilson on her well-deserved win!
