In early February, Deadline reported about drama behind the scenes of Yellowstone. The outlet alleged that show creator Taylor Sheridan is looking to end the show in its current form. On top of that, Deadline claims that Matthew McConaughey is being looked at as the lead of a new Dutton-centric show.

Deadline claims that “sources” told them Yellowstone star Kevin Costner is the reason for the rumored drama. As they reported:

“Sources tell Deadline that Costner, who had originally limited himself to 65 days of shooting on Yellowstone, only wanted to shoot for 50 days for the first part of the current season. But for the second batch of episodes of the current, fifth season of Yellowstone, the actor, who just won best television actor in a drama series at the Golden Globes, only wanted to spend a week shooting.”

A Paramount Network spokesperson addressed these claims. They told Deadline:

“We have no news to report. Kevin Costner is a big part of Yellowstone and we hope that’s the case for a long time to come. Thanks to the brilliant mind of Taylor Sheridan, we are always working on franchise expansions of this incredible world he has built. Matthew McConaughey is a phenomenal talent with whom we’d love to partner.”

When an additional report from Puck went into more detail about the rumors, Costner’s attorney, Marty Singer, spoke out.

The idea that Kevin was only willing to work one week on the second half of season five of Yellowstone is an absolute lie,” Singer said. “…anyone suggesting it shouldn’t be believed for one second.”

He also called the rumors “ridiculous.”

“As everyone who knows anything about Kevin is well aware, he is incredibly passionate about the show, and has always gone way above and beyond to ensure its success,” Singer added.

Now, Wes Bentley, who plays Jamie Dutton on Yellowstone, has also addressed the rumors. He offered his two cents on the alleged drama while speaking with Entertainment Weekly:

“The news that’s come out recently about the show is, you know, it’s above my pay grade. Different people making decisions,” he said. “I know that they’re still working on…working things out with everyone, to make sure we shoot. And I’m confident we will. We always have before. I think it’s probably a bit of drama over nothing.”

Hopefully things all work out so Costner and the rest of the Yellowstone cast can turn in an epic second half of Season 5. Get caught up on the events of the midseason finale by watching the video below.
