Alan Jackson Will Perform A Tribute To Jimmy Buffett With Other Artists During The Ceremony
As for Jackson, he will participate in a tribute to his late friend Jimmy Buffett. Buffett passed away on September 1 at the age of 76.
Jackson and Buffett worked together many times over the years, most notably on the #1 hit “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.” The song won a CMA Award for Vocal Event of the Year, marking the first time Buffett ever won an award in his decades-long career.
After Buffett died, Jackson paid tribute to him in a heartfelt post on social media. He shared lyrics from another one of his and Buffett’s collaborations, “Boats to Build.”

Jackson will join other friends of Buffett’s for the tribute during the CMA Awards. Kenny Chesney, Zac Brown Band, and Mac McAnally will all participate in the tribute.
McAnally played in Buffett’s Coral Reefers Band for years. Zac Brown Band worked on the song “Knee Deep” with Buffett in 2011. Chesney and Buffett worked together many times, and once collaborated on Buffett’s “Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season.”
The CMA picked the perfect group of artists to honor Buffett, no doubt about it. Their performance is sure to be one of the highlights of the ceremony on November 8.
In the meantime, head below to watch Chesney and Jackson sing Hank Williams‘ “Hey Good Lookin'” with Buffett years ago. Clint Black, Toby Keith, and George Strait also jumped in on the fun!
