In May 2019 a family vacationing in Florida found an alligator relaxing on top of a floaty shaped like an alligator in the pool of the family’s AirBnB rental home.

Dave Jacobs said his family drove down from Georgia to Miami for a wedding and brought their dog with them. He rented the home because it looked like a great place to experience Florida to the fullest. They enjoyed being there and said his family first noticed the alligator in a lake near their vacation rental.

“We thought that was pretty cute,” Jacobs told Miami New Times. “Then, the next day, it just showed up in the pool.”

The next day their dog began furiously barking and running around the pool, getting the family’s attention of their new guest. Jacob took a picture of it while his wife called the homeowner, who contacted an alligator wrangler to come to the property and remove the creature.

The gator just chilled on the float until the man got there. Once he showed up, the alligator wrangler informed the family it was mating season for gators and he’d been really busy with removing them from people’s properties. He captured it and transported it away to be released in a safe place. The next morning the family made their way back to their home state with a cool story to tell.

“We have gators in Georgia, but they’re just in areas that are not as populated, like some swamp where no one lives,” Jacobs says. “But in Florida, they’re just in your neighborhoods.”
