Did Beth Feel Her Father’s Death?

In this week’s episode of Yellowstone, John Dutton’s death is played out on camera, and the two timelines converge.

Consider this your spoiler warning for Yellowstone Season 5, Episode 11.

Throughout Part 2 of Season 5, Taylor Sheridan has skillfully navigated between past and present timelines, seamlessly shifting the story from events before John Dutton’s death to those unfolding after.

In this episode, the two timelines converge as it is revealed where all the characters were when their father was killed. Beth was driving home from a visit with her husband, and Kayce was sleeping soundly with his wife.

At 3 AM, when the shot was fired, Beth, John Dutton’s daughter, took a noticeable deep breath. She immediately called her husband, Rip, to check on him. When he assured her he was fine, she said something had gone wrong.

At that same time, Kayce woke up from a bad dream that turns out not to be a dream at all. Meaning that somehow, both of the biological kids of John Dutton “knew” he was killed.

The Death Is Finally Investigated

Kayce, John Dutton’s son, goes complete Army badass as he investigates the untimely death of his father. Starting with a visit to the coroner, he is able to convince her to reexamine the death she originally categorized as a suicide. After a quick look at the body with fresh eyes, the coroner is able to see signs of a struggle and changes the cause of death to undetermined.

Kayce approaches Jaime to confront him. Jaime performs remarkably, convincing his adoptive brother that he would never harm the family. This is surprising, considering that he said about the ranch just a few scenes earlier, “If we want it, we have to take it.”

Watch his confrontation with his other adoptive sibling, Beth, below.

In addition to Kayce and Beth’s two rather bleak speeches about the future of Yellowstone Ranch, the most significant event in this episode was another untimely death.

After a blowup fight with Jaime, Sarah, who originally placed the hit on John Dutton, is killed.

While on the phone with Jaime, after their argument that got physical, Sarah is stopped by a harmless-looking couple who asks for directions. The scene turns gruesome rather quickly as the male pulls a gun and shoots her in the head.

Episode 11 ends there. Tune in next week for Season 5, Episode 12 of Yellowstone.
