Ashley McBryde Has Reached A Major Milestone In Her Sobriety Journey
“1,000 days, 1,000 moons. 1,000 hangovers skipped,” writes Ashley McBryde as she commemorates one thousand days without a drink of alcohol.
“1,000 ‘I love you’s’ I say to my reflection. I see the woman I am now and the woman I am on my way to being and I have love and compassion for the woman I was and I care for her daily.”
McBryde’s grit and determination are evident. In the last couple of years, she has won her first Grammy Award, been inducted into the Grand Ole Opry, and earned multiple other award nominations.
While the 41-year-old’s fierce talent and unwavering drive have largely contributed to her success, she also credits the important steps she took toward self-care.
McBryde’s Decision To Give Up Alcohol
In an interview with PEOPLE, Ashley McBryde revealed that she had made the private decision to stop drinking in June 2022. She explained why she waited more than a year to speak about it publicly:
“All people are gonna do is just wait for you to screw up, and that’s really annoying. I did it for me. I didn’t do it for social media.”
McBryde admitted that she had developed a reputation for drinking, but after too many nights where her drunk alter ego took the driver’s seat, she knew she needed to make a change.
“Maybe part of being the ‘whiskey-drinking badass’ is knowing when to set it down, knowing when it’s costing you too much. This had become too costly, and I’m not willing to trade this — what I do, what I love — for anything.”
She shared that the lifestyle change resulted in positive changes both physically and mentally, noting that she is now feeling “the best I’ve ever felt.”
Words Of Encouragement To Those Pursuing Sobriety
Along with a heartfelt and vulnerable reflection on her last 1,000 days, Ashley McBryde shared words of encouragement for those on a similar path.
“Wherever you are in your journey, day 1, day 0…. Day 400 or day zero again for the 10th time. It is worth it. Every day is a milestone. Every version of you was necessary to be who you are now. So love them.”
