Even before her mom Beth passed away in 2019, Cecily Chapman knew she would wear her wedding dress when she got married.

I always wanted to wear my mom’s dress for my wedding,” Cecily recently told the U.S. iteration of The Sun.

Cecily was born on June 19, 1993 to Beth and her ex-husband. She was approaching her 13th birthday when her mom married Duane “Dog” Chapman on May 20, 2006. Dog adopted Cecily after the wedding, and she considers him to be her father.

The day she got married to my dad I thought she looked so beautiful – it was the most beautiful dress I could ever imagine,” Cecily told The Sun.

Now, Cecily is engaged to the love of her life, Matty Smith. They have been engaged since 2018, and live together in Hawaii.

The couple is hoping to get married in late 2021. “We want to get married within a year,” Cecily said. “I would like a Christmas wedding or a Halloween wedding. I like the weather in Hawaii in November time.”

Whenever the wedding occurs, Cecily knows she’ll be wearing her mom’s wedding dress.

It’s a big deal for me,” she said. “I spoke to her while she was alive and told her I wanted the dress – I think I said that to her a couple of years after the wedding.”

As for how she thinks her dad will react to her wearing Beth’s dress, Cecily said:

…I’m sure it will be super emotional for him seeing me wear the dress but he understands what it means to me.”

She said Dog has been “very supportive” of all of Beth’s daughters having her belongings. Cecily says that after she wears her mom’s wedding dress, she’ll pass it on to her younger sister, Bonnie, for her to wear if she’d like.

Beyond loving the beauty of her Beth’s dress, Cecily feels that wearing it on her wedding day will give her a way to feel connected to her mom even though she can’t be there:

But most of all it’s a way for me to feel like she is with me the whole time and be a part of the wedding,” she said.

We know Cecily will be a beautiful bride. Her mom would be so proud.
