Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani have celebrated several Christmases together. Over the years, they’ve formed some of their own holiday traditions, and have continued some traditions established by their family members.

This Christmas and its connected traditions will be all the more special for Blake and Gwen. That’s because it’s their first Christmas as husband and wife (they married on July 3).

The couple spoke about their holiday traditions during an interview on Apple Music’s holiday special, From Apple Music With Love. And some of their traditions are quite unique!

Blake and Gwen started one tradition of their own. Each year, they find a new recipe to make for their family’s holiday gathering. But they don’t go for something simple…they intentionally seek out a “difficult” recipe to recreate.

We go out of our way to find a recipe. And it’s always got to be the most difficult thing you can imagine…” Blake said.

Gwen said it “makes [her] really uncomfortable” to try such unusual recipes, because her family was “very traditional” about Christmas while she was growing up:

So the idea that now I somehow have control over what we’re actually putting in our mouths at Christmas, it makes me feel like I’m going to get in trouble…So anyways, thank you for pushing me, pushing me to find new creative ways to feed our family,” Gwen said to Blake.

Another one of the couples’ unique Christmas traditions is one Gwen learned from her father. Blake explained what it is, saying:

One of the craziest things that I learned about you and your family, as far as holiday traditions go, is the wrapping paper wall the kids run through,” he said, referring to Gwen’s three sons Kingston, Zuma, and Apollo. “And I’m not kidding when I talk about how serious this is to the Stefanis…I’ve never known you to take anything more serious when it comes to a party type thing than this wrapping paper wall that they run through.”

Blake asked how that tradition started, and Gwen gave all the credit to her father:

When we were kids growing up, we had a hallway with all the bedrooms and then there was the living room,” she said. “Basically, the toys and presents and everything, and the tree [was in there]. The opening to that room…was all covered with wrapping paper and a big bow. And we had to actually crash through it to see what Santa brought. Basically we did that our whole lives.”

Blake and Gwen have also celebrated Christmas through song. They released a holiday duet, “You Make It Feel Like Christmas” in 2017. They released an accompanying music video the following year, which you can watch below.

What about y’all? Do you have any holiday traditions that are unique to your family? Feel free to share them!
