Blake Shelton Posts Photos Of Special Gift That “Just Might Top” Any Other

Blake Shelton was named the Grand Marshal of the 2022 Indy 500. It was a special honor for him, considering how much his late father, Richard “Dick” Shelton, loved NASCAR.

In a post reflecting on the race, Blake said he wished his dad was able to be there with him.

Blake is good friends with NASCAR driver Jimmie Johnson. During the Indy 500, Jimmie honored Blake’s dad by wearing a helmet with one of his photos printed on it. The helmet also featured a photo of Blake’s big brother Richie, who also passed away.

Both Richard and Richie served in the military. So the helmet Jimmie wore included photos of them in uniform.

Blake thanked Jimmie for paying tribute to his dad and brother in such a meaningful way. “Thank you @JimmieJohnson for letting [my dad] and my brother have a spot on your helmet,” he said in a post on social media.

Blake and Jimmie actually worked together to design the helmet, which was called the “Helmet of Heroes.” One side features the images of Richard and Richie, while the other side features photos of Jimmie’s grandfathers, who were both veterans as well.

Jimmie and Blake signed the helmet Jimmie wore during the Indy 500. Fans can enter a giveaway to win that original helmet, as Jimmie explained in a video on his Instagram.

Jimmie also gave Blake a copy of the helmet. He was incredibly touched by the gesture.

Blake shared some photos of the helmet on social media, and said:

“I have been blessed in my lifetime to have received some incredible gifts and awards and things that will always mean a lot to me. But on a personal level this just might top them all. Thank you @jimmiejohnson. It is a an honor and a privilege to call you my friend.“

Jimmie commented on the post, and said, “Thanks my friend, the honor and privilege was all mine.”
