Sean Tuohy Jr., whose family was the subject of the Oscar-nominated movie Blind Side, is speaking out after Michael Oher accused his family of  faking his adoption for financial gain.

This week, Michael Oher made headlines when he filed legal paperwork to terminate a conservatorship from Sean and Leigh Anne Tuohy. The story of the Tuohy family taking in Oher when he was a teen was told in the movie The Blind Side. Tim McGraw played Sean Tuohy, Sandra Bullock won an Oscar for playing Leigh Anne, Lily Collins portrayed their daughter Collins Tuohy, Jae Head played Sean “S.J.” Tuohy Jr., and Quinton Aaron portrayed Oher. The movie followed Oher’s journey from hear-homelessness to being adopted by the Tuohys, who helped him get a football scholarship to University of Mississippi – aka Ole Miss, and their alma mater. The film ended with Oher being drafted by the Baltimore Ravens in 2009.

 Where Is Michael Oher Now?

Now 37 years old, Michael Oher is retired from the NFL after playing eight seasons, winning a Super Bowl, and being named to the Professional Football Writers Association’s All-Rookie Team in 2009. Oher is a father to four children with his wife, whom he met at University of Mississippi.

Michael Oher vs. The Tuohys

Oher claims that that Leigh Anne and Sean encouraged him to sign legal documents that designated them as his conservators at age 18, masquerading it as an adoption-like arrangement. According to the legal filing, Oher placed trust in the Tuohys and signed as directed, oblivious to the non-adoption nature of the papers. Instead, these documents gavethe Tuohys authority over his financial and contractual affairs. The conservatorship papers were submitted in 2004, when Oher was already a legal adult, prompting questions about the necessity of such an agreement.

One of Oher’s allegations centers on the financial gains derived from his inspiring tale. Per Oher, the entire Tuohy clan profited from the adaptation of his life. Oher claims that the family received a considerable sum for their participation in the movie’s production, coupled with a share of its profits. According to multiple reports, The Blind Side grossed over $330 million.

Sean Tuohy Jr. Speaks Out

Following Oher’s filings, Sean Jr, who goes by S.J., was a guest on Barstool Radio, where he denied that his family “made millions” from the movie. He also understands where Oher is coming from.

“I get why he’s mad, I completely understand, and it stinks that it’ll play out on a very public stage,” he says.

SJ also said his friends have been “roasting” him in the group chat for giving them subpar wedding presents if he has $2 million in his ban account. He also said that if he was a millionaire, it would be in his e-mail signature.

When asked about how much money the entire family, including Oher, made from the film, SJ said that “everybody in the family for an equal share,” which was $14,000. Since the movie performed so well, they all received $60,000-$70,000 in “the last four or five years.”

SJ’s Polarizing Comments

During his interview, SJ said he will love Oher no matter what, but the fact that he is just now finding out about the conservatorship isn’t believable.

“I want to preface this by saying I loved Mike at 16, I love [Michael] now at 37, and I’ll love him at 67,” he said. “If he says he learned that in February, I find that hard to believe. [I went back to] our family group texts … to see what things have been said. And there’s things back in 2020, 2021 [that] were like, you know, ‘If you guys give me this much, then I won’t go public with things.’ And so I don’t know if that’s true. I think everyone learned in the past year about the conservatorship stuff because of Britney Spears so maybe that’s the case.”
