In August 2015, country music fans were shocked to hear that Reba McEntire and her husband of 26 years, Narvel Blackstock, had separated. Their divorce was finalized in October, and since then people have been wondering how McEntire is holding up.
Although McEntire has remained fairly quiet about the divorce, earlier this month she spoke about it briefly with CMT‘s Cody Alan. McEntire admitted she took the divorce hard, and said it wasn’t her idea.
“I didn’t want it in any shape, form, or fashion so it was really hard to make the adjustment,” she said.
Still, McEntire maintained that her and Blackstock remain friends, and she wishes him nothing but happiness. In a more recent interview with Parade, McEntire echoed these sentiments, saying, “I do want my fans to know that I’m very happy. They worry about me because of the divorce. I’m very happy and I’m glad that Narvel is happy. What more can I ask for?”
Of course, McEntire recognizes that she had a tough time coping with the divorce at first. She gives all the credit to her faith for helping her stay strong and pull through:
“God’s way is the best way. And it seems to me that Narvel is happier and I’m in a really good state of mind. It’s taken me this time to pull through why and how…But going on with life is what’s really important. And my faith helped me with that. I think about what God wants me to do. I focus on that. Faith is really important. It keeps me sane and it keeps me hopeful.”
As for her future, McEntire has lots of plans in store, revealing that she wants to start a new television show, star in a Western, keep recording, and more.
“I’m at a point where if it’s not fun, I’m just not doing it,” she said. “I’m totally enjoying life and having the time of my life.“
We’re glad to hear that Reba is in a better place now, and look forward to seeing what the next thing up her sleeve is!
