When Waylon Jennings and Willie Nelson issued their 1978 cover of “Mammas Don’t Let Your Babies Grow Up To Be Cowboys”, they had no idea that it would go down in the record books as one of the most-covered and legendary outlaw country hits to ever grace the country charts!

Nearly 30 years later, Jennings’ son, Shooter Jennings paired up with rocking Southern team Montgomery Gentry for a one-of-a-kind performance to honor some of the greatest country duets of all time.

Encouraging the rowdy crowd to sing along, these three were definitely the stars of the 2005 CMT Special, giving a performance of gigantic proportions to the onlookers and sealing their names in history for this unforgettable tribute.

The song was originally recorded by Ed Bruce in 1975 and the song soared to No. 15 on the Hot Country Singles chart. Just a short time later and the Waylon/Willie duet would beat it by nailing the No. 1 chart position and stay there for more than a months’ time.
