In a moment of incredible panic and fear, a 5-year-old girl walks up to the edge of the swimming pool where she can see her mother floating face down, and unmoving.

According to the report by KIII-TV South Texas, what happened next was nothing short of a miracle.

As young Allison approached the pool’s edge, she had a split second to make a decision..any decision. What she chose to do likely saved her mom from drowning.

The small 5-year-old jumped into the pool next to her unconscious mother and began to pull and tug her from the middle of the pool to the shallow end. Next, she flipped her mom’s body over so that her face was no longer submerged in the water.

Allison clamored out of the pool and bolted to the house to get help. Her aunt and sisters came running from the house and were able to help Tracy Anderwald regain consciousness and call for emergency services.

The little girl has been swimming since she was just two-and-a-half years old, but this marks the first time she’s had to adopt a new role as lifeguard.

Tracy was underwater for almost five minutes before Allison saw she was in trouble. Luckily the youngster was able to think quickly and make the best decision possible for her mom.

Doctors still do not know why Tracy had a seizure that day, but they speculated that if she had been underwater for a minute longer, she would likely have suffered irreparable harm or death.

The mother-daughter pair are both happy and healthy after spending a couple days recuperating in a Corpus Christy hospital, and her mom now calls Allison, her “tiny hero”.
