Over the weekend, thousands of NASCAR fans flocked to the Texas Motor Speedway for the Duck Commander 500.

Duck Dynasty star and Robertson family patriarch, Phil Robertson, performed the invocation prayer before the start of the race. In years past, Phil’s granddaughter Sadie has performed this duty, but this year, it was his turn to take the microphone.

Robertson began the prayer the only way he knew how. He thanked God for founding our nation, for our military and prayed that we “don’t forget who brought us, You, our faith in the blood of Jesus and his resurrection. Help us, Father, to get back to that.”

Robertson, who has publicly endorsed Republican candidate Ted Cruz for President, also prayed that we “put a Jesus man in the White House“.

According to Business Insider, NASCAR and the MLB are the only organizations that include prayer in their sporting events. Most MLB teams sing “God Bless America” during the seventh inning stretch.
