Following the tragic loss of his wife, country star, Rory Feek, finds the best medicine for his aching heart…
Every week Rory and his friends converge on their buddy, Gabe’s, house for coffee. Gabe is the father of the best friend to Rory’s little girl, Indiana. He’s been a staple in the Feek’s life for a long time.
About 6-8 friends all meet up at Gabe’s one morning a week to have coffee and enjoy each other’s company. As Rory describes it, “There’s no agenda. No plan to get to the bottom of anything…except our coffee cups.”
The guys all differ in religion, profession, and background, but Rory says that they all share one common thing: a love for God.
Talking about whatever comes to mind, the fellas laugh and sip on coffee, greeting the day and each other.
“And we heal,” Rory continues. “And we ponder what’s next in our lives. What story God is using us to tell.”
The moments shared between them are special in a way that doesn’t have a task or goal set forth. Its simple, easy, and free flowing. Like God’s love.
“In my life, it’s never been the big events that change everything…it’s always been the small ones. The ones that you don’t think matter. But they do.”
He reveals that he’s going to celebrate all the stories that come through his life, both big and small – because they all make up the larger story that God is telling.
“[Including] a story about healing a heart that is broken. Too broken to talk about, so we don’t. We just drink coffee. And we laugh.”
“And maybe that really is after all…The best medicine.”
It’s encouraging to hear of Rory’s open take on life and how God influences it; that he has a support group and they are helping him heal from his loss.
The entire country music community continually prays and thinks of Joey + Rory as they have impacted all of us in one way or another.
