Sturgill Simpson Debuts New Song About…WAFFLE HOUSE? This Will Have You Cracking Up!
on Apr 19, 2016
Sturgill Simpson has had the country music industry buzzing with the release of his third studio album A Sailor’s Guide to Earth on April 15. Fans first learned about the album a little over a month beforehand, when Simpson released its first single, “Brace for Impact (Live a Little).” But one track that really had people talking was Simpson’s cover of the hit Nirvana song “In Bloom,” which he released on March 24.
Besides “In Bloom” all of the songs on A Sailor’s Guide to Earth are written and composed by Simpson himself. This just goes to show not only his talent as a singer, but a songwriter as well.
During a recent appearance on the Late Show With Stephen Colbert to promote his new album, Simpson showed off his musical skills yet again with a new, original song he debuted on the show. But it’s not what you think…the song was actually a humorous tune which Simpson performed along with Colbert as a duet.
So what was the song about, you ask? Waffle House!
You read correctly…Simpson and Colbert paid tribute to the popular breakfast chain with a hilarious song called “No Shoes, No Shirt, No Knuckleheads.” The two of them praised Waffle House for all of its wonderful food, but they made sure to set some ground rules for anyone who thinks about visiting the restaurant.
“All these nice upstanding families just came for some food,” Simpson sang. “If you’re gonna cause a ruckus, then I must object. These are some world famous waffles son now show some respect.“
We couldn’t get through watching Simpson and Colbert sing their Waffle House song without cracking up. For one, the subject matter is hysterical, and two, it actually sounds like something that could be a real country song!
Check out Simpson’s new song about Waffle House in the video below, and as hard as you try, you won’t be able to stop laughing!
Although the Waffle House song is not on A Sailor’s Guide to Earth, Colbert is hopeful that it could make its way to the Waffle House jukeboxes in the restaurant. We would love to see that happen!
