Even though Keith Urban‘s Ripcord isn’t set for release until May 6, fans have already been enjoying some of its tracks. The album’s first two singles, “John Cougar, John Deere, John 3:16″ and “Break On Me” were both major hits on the charts, paving the way for its third single “Wasted Time.”
Urban released “Wasted Time” on March 29, which has climbed as high as the 17th spot on the Billboard country chart so far. As the months fade into summer, we expect that Urban’s song will continue to climb up the charts, since it is the perfect summertime anthem.
Written by Urban, Greg Wells, and J. Hart, “Wasted Time” celebrates the youthful memories of summer, with lyrics such as “Every Friday night when the sun went down/We’d be running them streets like we owned the town.“
In a press release, Urban said they were inspired to write the song after sharing memories from their youth. “We were talking about growing up and all the things you do, no matter where you are in the world, and the song just took off from there,” he said.
On Thrusday (April 28), Urban finally released the music video to “Wasted Time,” which perfectly showcases the story told in the lyrics. A group of young friends can be seen dancing, swimming, and otherwise just having a good time, while Urban stands with his band next to a bonfire and jams out on his banjo while he sings. All of the scenes in the video scream “summer” which is why we feel this music video and “Wasted Time” will quickly become the country soundtrack to Summer 2016.
