RARE: A Young, Beardless Eric Church Covers Garth Brooks In College Audition

Facebook/Eric Church

Eric Church looks almost unrecognizable in this “vintage” video!

Church attended Appalachian State University in the mid-1990s, where he received a degree in business, but by the looks of it, he dabbled in music while he was there.

In this video, he sings Garth Brooks’ “We Shall Be Free” for an audition. We don’t know what the audition was for, but we’re sure he got the part!

It’s hard to believe that’s actually him in faded jeans, a colorful striped long sleeve shirt and a combed-over hair style! We’re not used to seeing him without his beard, sunglasses and leather jacket.

This audition proves he had talent from the get-go, yet we didn’t know he was such a big Brooks fan! Maybe he will work in some Garth Brooks music into his future set lists.

His vocal style has also changed since this video and we’re not sure which one we like better!

As we all know, Church has become a very successful country singer and has a total of six No. 1 songs, along with several awards including Album of the year, Song of the Year, Video of the Year and Musical Event of the Year.
