When Trisha Yearwood‘s mother, Gwen, passed away on October 1, 2011, she not only lost her mother, but her best friend. Over the years, Gwen helped write two cookbooks along with Trisha and her other daughter, Beth, and was a huge source of support for Trisha.

With Mother’s Day coming up, Trisha finds herself thinking about her mom more than ever. Since Gwen passed away, Mother’s Day has always been a day of sadness for Trisha. During a recent live “coffee talk” video on her Facebook, Trisha opened up about how challenging it has been for her to celebrate mother’s day without her mom.

Now that I’ve lost my mom, Mother’s Day is tough for me,” she said. “I’m a bonus mom of three girls, so I celebrate that way, but I miss my mom.”

Because of her experience, Trisha wanted to encourage her fans to treasure their own mothers every day.

When you have your mom, you never think about the people who don’t,” she said.If you have your mom, not just on Mother’s Day, call her every single day. Do not take it for granted. If you don’t have your mom, find a mom and hug her, and you have all my strength on Mother’s Day.”

Trisha’s advice is something we all should take to heart.  Tune in below to watch Trisha’s full “coffee talk” video. She starts talking about Mother’s Day around the 6:40 mark.

Although Trisha’s mom isn’t here, she will always have a special place in her heart, which she makes clear in her Mother’s Day message.
