Kenny Chesney‘s latest single, “Noise,” is one he is immensely passionate about. Released in March 2016 as the first single off of his upcoming album Some Town Somewhere, Chesney co-wrote the song, which has a powerful message for all who listen.

With this year’s election in full swing, Chesney found himself increasingly aggravated by all of the constant “noise” and media coverage concerning the whole ordeal, as he told Rolling StoneEventually, Chesney started thinking about other figures and things that contribute to the “noise” we experience in our daily lives, and that’s how his new single came to be.

Chesney helped co-write the song, which names everything from phones, to television, to construction as sources of “noise” in our daily lives. He argues that because of all this noise, we’re losing our ability to connect with others, as he sings “There really ain’t no conversation/Ain’t nothing left to the imagination/Trapped in our phones and we can’t make it stop, stop this noise.

The message Chesney was trying to get across in “Noise” comes through clear as day in the new music video for the song, which Chesney released on Friday (May 6). This video is unlike anything we’ve seen from Chesney before, as it features a series of flashing images of technology, celebrities, and other “noisy” elements of our daily lives. The images flash by so quickly it’s hard to take everything in, which is entirely the point. It seems that the flashing images are meant to represent our fast-paced lives, and how we are rarely able to take in the whole picture of what’s going on.

Chesney is just as excited about the music video as he is about the song itself. He feels that it perfectly captures what he pictured the visual representation of the song to be, and is looking forward to sharing his message with others.

We’re not preaching to anyone,” he wrote on Facebook “we’re just making a statement about the way we live. The message is to try to be mindful of it. If you love someone, tell them you love them. Don’t text it to them. There’s so much life to be lived outside the #noise…
