Kenny & Miranda Go Way Back
Miranda Lambert was still a rising star in country music when she signed on to join Kenny Chesney as the opening act for his tour in 2009. Today, Lambert is now a superstar in her own right, but she and Chesney have remained close.
Lambert has joined Chesney on stage many times since she first opened for him all those years ago. She once surprised fans at one of Chesney’s concerts in Chicago when she teamed up with him on a few songs.
When it came time to pick a touring partner for his Spread the Love Tour in 2016, Chesney thought back to that moment, and knew he had to ask Lambert to tag along.
Reuniting On Tour
Of course, Lambert was happy to join Chesney on tour again, and she signed on to perform at several of his tour stops, including ones in Louisville, Dallas, and Detroit.
For the two, it was a no brainer to tour together, because they’ve been friends ever since they first toured together. When asked how they’ve kept their friendship going over the years, they said that it’s been surprisingly easy.
“I don’t talk to her every day; we don’t call each other at Christmas,” Chesney told EW. “But when we see each other, it’s like we never left.”
Lambert went on to elaborate, saying that even though they don’t talk regularly, she’s taken so much away from her friendship with Chesney.
“It’s a low-maintenance friendship,” she admitted. “But I’ve learned a lot from him, and every tour I’ve been on, somebody’s learned from him.”
They Kick Up The Dust Together
As for what Chesney was looking forward to the most about having Lambert on tour with him, he was excited for the high level of energy she brings to each show.
“To watch Miranda go up there and kick ass and have this unique spot in country where people look up to her…it’s awesome,” he said, going on to add with a laugh, “The stage is gonna be a lot prettier, I can tell you that!”
It’s so awesome to see how Chesney and Lambert have kept their friendship strong after all this time. Enjoy watching one of their collaborations on Chesney’s “You and Tequila” below.
