One of the biggest female artists in country music history has been head-over-heels in love with her husband for nearly three decades, and nowhere is that more obvious than inside the lyrics of her single, “Reckless”.
During an interview with Access Hollywood, Martina McBride confesses that the song is, in fact, a love letter to her beloved husband, John.
The pair met when Martina was just 20 years old, and he was able to “pull her from the fire” as the song describes.
They met in early 1987 and started dating not too long after. By May, they were engaged, and they wed just a year later.
Both Martina and John still get giddy talking about one another, and they both say that they couldn’t have been more blessed.
“I’m not a religious guy, but I always felt God put us together,” John revealed to The Boot. “It’s crazy. I’d never had that feeling before. This girl – she’s incredible! And I love her more [now] than I ever have.”
From Martina’s perspective, it sounds as if they’re living the same fairytale dream.
In an article for NBC’s Today Show, she wrote, “I married a man who is a great partner. He is thoughtful, kind, considerate, romantic, handsome and really funny. We love each other’s company, our personalities complement each other, and we respect each other. He thinks I’m smart and funny, and I think the same about him. We are a great team.”
She revealed that her April 29th, 2016 release, “Reckless”, was about “being grateful for unconditional love; for somebody to reach out, and love you unconditionally.”
And that’s just what they have done. Loved each other unconditionally for nearly three decades. What an incredible love story!
