Over the past year, Blake Shelton’s personal life has been at the center of just about every tabloid magazine.

His sudden divorce from Miranda Lambert in July after four years of marriage and a total of 10 years together sent journalists into a frenzy to figure out the cause of the split.

Both Shelton and Lambert have found love again, and he is now ready to talk about the difficult break-up.

“This time last year, there was no light at the end of the tunnel for me personally,” Shelton told PEOPLE Magazine. “There was a point there where I thought I didn’t even want to exist anymore.”

Throughout the break-up and after, both parties have kept quiet about the cause of divorce and it doesn’t look like they want anyone to know. But we do know this, it was extremely painful.

I told people I wished I could go into a coma and wake up a year from now,” he said.

Since then, Shelton began dating his fellow Voice coach, Gwen Stefani who was also going through a very public divorce, while Lambert found love with R&B singer Anderson East.

Shelton’s faith has grown stronger and has helped him get through the last year. Listen to his song “Savior’s Shadow” below.
