Released in April 2016 as a single off of her highly successful album, Storyteller, “Chruch Bells” has quickly become another one of Carrie Underwood‘s smash hits. While on her current Storyteller Tour, Underwood has continued to blow crowds away with her powerful performances of the song.

The song tells the story of a country girl who goes from rags to riches after catching the eye of a rich man. But after they marry, the man starts to mistreat her. In the end, the woman manages to break away when her husband dies, with Underwood singing “and how he died is still a mystery.”

During the CMT Music Awards, Underwood delivered what many consider to be one of the best performances of the night. Wearing a black outfit just like the character Jenny in the song, Underwood took complete command of the stage with her passionate performance.

Backing Underwood up was a full choir, which added further to the somewhat haunting message of the song. But Underwood’s soaring voice managed to power above them all, and she ended up bringing the entire room to their feet by the time the song was over.

This is one performance from the CMT Music Awards you absolutely have to see! You can check it out in the video below.

It’s no wonder Underwood’s “Church Bells” performance earned such an enthusiastic reaction from the crowd!
