Alan Jackson Delivers Moving Tribute To 9/11 Victims With ‘Where Were You’

Country legend Alan Jackson took the stage at SeaWorld back in April of 2014 for a beautiful performance of his somber American classic “Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning).”

The crowd went wild when Alan took the stage. The legend moved the crowd both with the powerful lyrics of song as well as with his commanding presence. 

“Where Were You (When the World Stopped Turning)” was released in November of 2001 two months after the attack on the World Trade Center on September 11. The song is about the reactions following 9/11 and captures the intense emotions surrounding the attacks. 

“Where were you when the world stopped turnin’ that day in September,” sings Jackson. “Did you stand there in shock at the sight of that black smoke risin’ agaisnt that blue sky…Or did you just sit down and cry?” 

The song held the No.1 spot on Billboard’s Hot Country Singles chart for a consective five weeks and earned Jackson his first Grammy for “Best Country Song.”
