A Lonely Anthem

The young boy showcases expert guitar skills as well as strong country vocals with a signature southern twang. The video is shot in his living room while the young rising star sings Haggard’s harrowing lyrics – telling the story of a lonely fugitive.

“I’m sick and tired of running, the hunger and the pain,” sings the boy. “I am a fugitive being hunted down like game. I am a fugitive but I’ve got to clear my name.”

In “The Fugitive” Haggard plays the part of an escaped convict on the run from the law. The fugitive is afraid of the risk of settling down or falling in love that holds to his freedom – so he chooses to lead a lonely life on the road.

The song was released by Haggard as the title track from his 1966 album I’m a Lonesome Fugitive. The song peaked at No.1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot Country Singles chart where it spent a total of 15 weeks.
