“Ring Of Fire” was released on Alan Jackson’s 34 Number Ones album. His version of Johnny Cash’s hit song reached #45 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) chart.
Jackson talks about how he never really sang “Ring Of Fire” all that much. Even though “a lot of his [Johnny Cash] stuff was really cool”, Jackson said, “A lot of times, some songs became hard to play in the honky tonks… They wanted stuff they could dance to.”
Jackson said he was always a fan of Cash’s repertoire and had always enjoyed “Ring Of Fire”. He laughed and said, “I guess I should have done ‘Jackson’.” That would have made a little bit more sense, right?
Check out this great interview where Alan talks about how they “funked” up his version of Cash’s song, as opposed to the trumpets from the original version. Y’all will receive a lot of good insight with this interview. You can also check out his awesome rendition here.
