From the moment 21-year-old Milton Patton crosses the America’s Got Talent stage you can sense their is something special about the aspiring country singer.

The Arkansas native risked everything for his audition, even sleeping outside the venue the night before just to make sure he didn’t miss his shot. Patton shares that he wasn’t “born with a silver spoon” in his mouth and that he grew up around a lot of drugs, violence, and gang culture.

The contestant was first drawn to country music when he was working through a bad relationship and fell in love with the genre after he heard “Whiskey Lullaby” by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, a song that inevitably inspired his audition.

Patton shocked the audience with his strong country vocals and moved them into a wild round of applause after the song came to a close, leaving the contestant in tears.

“I worked so hard to get here,” he says through tears. “The stuff I’ve been through, sleeping outside to audition, and all the stuff that I’m hearing from these people…Oh my gosh.”

After the judges expressed how impressed they were with his performance and “superstar” potential, the young singer completely breaks down. His moving performance earns him a well-deserved spot in the next round of the competition.
