Deaf Mom Hears Her Eight-Year-Old Son’s Voice For The First Time In Emotional Reunion

Mothers dream about hearing their child’s first words, but this mother had to wait eight long years to hear her son’s voice for the first time.

Dawn lost her hearing 15 years ago and has never been able to use hearing aids.  She communicates by reading lips, and as anyone can imagine, it’s exhausting! She found out from her doctor that she is a candidate for a cochlear implant, which is a surgically implanted electronic device that provides a sense of sound.

Dawn says her decision to go through with the surgery took a lot of influence from her family. “I’m not afraid of the surgery. I’m afraid of hearing,” she says. She has never heard her eight-year-old son’s voice and says she’s afraid of his actual voice not matching up to the voice she “hears” in her brain.

After her surgery, she met with her doctor who activated her implants said everything went really well! As she sits anxiously waiting to hear her young son’s voice, he says, “she never heard my voice. I’m just really excited she can finally hear!

After expressing just how nervous she is, her son walks in the room behind her and says, “Hey Mom! Can you hear me?!Dawn’s face lights up in excitement and they embrace in an emotional hug. Wiping away tears, he says “I love you!” And she can hear it!

He says later, “Now she can finally hear me and I’m not silent anymore.”

What a truly heartwarming moment. Be sure to have tissues with you when you watch this emotional video below!
