Singing competition shows like American Idol normally do not allow the singing of Christian music, most likely in fear of offending people.
But, in the 2008 season, the Top 8 finalists sang the worship song “Shout To The Lord” and it was extremely beautiful and totally unexpected.
They opened the Top Eight show with the gospel song surrounded by a full choir behind the young singers. When the choir and the Idol contestants sing in unison, it is just chilling.
To help your memory, this particular group of American Idol hopefuls included winner, David Cook, and runner-up, David Archuleta.
“Shout To The Lord” was written in 1993 by Darlene Zschech during a time when she was financially struggling and dealing with raising her young daughters.
The singers give a passionate and emotional performance. Do y’all think they should be singing more songs like this on TV?

Lyrics
My Jesus, my Savior
Lord, there is none like You
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
My Jesus, my Savior
Lord, there is none like You
All of my days, I want to praise
The wonders of Your mighty love
My comfort, my shelter
Tower of refuge and strength
Let every breath, all that I am
Never cease to worship You
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have
Shout to the Lord, all the earth, let us sing
Power and majesty, praise to the King
Mountains bow down and the seas will roar
At the sound of Your name
I sing for joy at the work of Your hands
Forever I’ll love You, forever I’ll stand
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
Nothing compares to the promise I have in You
