On August 13, 1988, Willie Nelson changed the country music world, becoming the first artist ever to have an album spend 10 years on the country charts. Can y’all believe it?!

Willie released the album Stardust in 1978, which included renditions of the hit songs, “Georgia on my Mind” and “Unchained Melody”. The ten-track album was such a hit that after peaking at #1, it stayed on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart from it’s release in 1978 until 1988. A whole 540 weeks! Wow!

The pop-meets-country album was a compilation of covers of Willie’s favorite songs, hand-picked by the legend himself. Stardust has since sold over five million copies, ranks #257 on Rolling Stone Magazine‘s list of the 500 Greatest Albums of All Time, and was inducted into the Grammy Hall of Fame in 2015

Well deserved, Willie!

Check out the videos below to hear two of the album’s hit songs, “Georgia on My Mind” and “Unchained Melody” and we’re sure y’all will see why this album held a spot on the charts for 10 years!
