For those who have heard “Whiskey Lullaby“, you know it’s a truly heartbreaking and tragic song about betrayal, regret and self-blame. Though many of you may think it’s a song solely by Brad Paisley and Alison Krauss, they are actually not the ones who penned it.
Country music icon Bill Anderson along with Jon Randall composed “Whiskey Lullaby“, which was then recorded and released off of Brad Paisley’s Mud On The Tires album in 2004. It peaked at #3 on the US Hot Country Songs (Billboard) chart and actually crossed over to US Billboard Hot 100.
We don’t often get to see writers sing one of their own songs (when it’s not being released on their own album), but when we do get such a rare gem, it definitely is a special treat. Especially when that person is “Whisperin'” Bill Anderson, a country legend and Opry member since 1961.
This isn’t the first hit song that Bill Anderson has written that has been performed by other major artists. Bill has several great songs under his belt, including George Strait’s “Give It Away“, Steve Wariner’s “Two Teardrops” and Kenny Chesney’s “A Lot Of Things Different“.
Bill’s velvet voice and classic style really puts a different spin on the song. A beautiful performance that is a truly a must-see.
